Ciro
Perrino was born in Sanremo where he started studying
music and playing drums and percussion. In 1970 he founded the progressive group IL SISTEMA, one of the most outstanding bands in Italy at that time, making the first experiments to combine rock and classical music. In 1972 he became a member of CELESTE, playing mainly acoustic instruments. The only album of the band "PRINCIPE DI UN GIORNO", recorded in 1974 but released only in 1976 is one of the most sought-after records for collectors all over the world and source of inspiration for all those musicians of the new generation deeply involved in the "progressive music". Then Perrino worked with many other bands, taking an interest in electronic instruments and playing an unusual but very interesting music. In 1980 his album "SOLARE" was released; this instrumental work contains eight tracks, each one dedicated to the planets of our solar system. Notwithstanding good sales and favorable opinions by critics, in the eighties Perrino ventured in other activities linked to the music, forming a publishing house and a record label, MELLOW RECORDS. After ten years he came back to the music scene with a new album "FAR EAST" containing fourteen tracks; each one has its own evocative and suggestive function and not a mere descriptive or didactic one. He manages to avoid the repetitive and mechanical aspects of electronic music, leading the listener in an imaginary trip in the ancient and new Far East. Born under the astrologic sign of Scorpio "THE INNER GARDEN", Perrino's opus from late 1992, is a real work in progress. Starting where "FAR EAST" ended each one of the sixteen tracks shows a deliberate plan in pursuit of a musical simplicity that is a successful attempt to express his musical vision of today. Here Perrino produces high quality progressive, electronic and new age music. Our man is by no means a copyist but the listener can hear influence echoing Jarre, Vangelis, Kitaro and even Vivaldi and the classical music of the seventeenth century. He plays all instruments on this album and it is a noteworthy achievement by this very gifted musician. "THE INNER GARDEN" has been published in almost all European countries and also successfully distributed in USA and Japan. At the end of '94 here's the new album "MOON IN THE WATER", another big step towards Perrino's real goal, the perfect synthesis of classical and electronic music. Once again, although his music is so wide-ranging, one can always recognize his style. "MOON IN THE WATER" is in fact a celebration of the many souls of Mr. Perrino, in a modern setting and with some of the members of the best symphonic orchestras in Europe; he always creates a high-tech music that cuts across boundaries and blends in all sorts of cultural elements. For the first time in many years Perrino also presents a Japanese female vocalist singing in the last track "GLASS RAIN": really enjoyable, interesting and inventive. In the world of synch music today, a genre mostly populated by trendier churning out pretty melodies and dance rhythms, it's always refreshing to discover an exploratory talent, capable of creating expressive music well away from the disco or new age masses. At the beginning of '98 Perrino's new release "DE RERUM NATURA" is in the shops distributed by WEA. It's an exceptionally well-played album, both technically sophisticated and emotionally rich. On acoustic piano Perrino's playing is sensitive, passionate and tender. The pieces are gentle and dreamy, leaving you filled with a sense of well-being and calm happiness. His classically-influenced playing has a deeply contemplative and often majestic feel. DE RERUM NATURA isn't a record of new age music only as it's a hybrid of classical music and art-rock. Nick The Nightfly of RADIO MONTECARLO NIGHTS often refers to it as an album of NEW MUSIC. Ciro Perrino is certainly a major talent and one we all hope we'll hear much more from!
